Out of the darkness and into the light...

Salt and Light
(originally ranted in 2002)

There is so much to say, but no ears to absorb it. It's all lunacy anyway. I doubt a bit of it would make sense even if someone took the time to be interested. But I am overcome with a certain joy and finality- not that life is over, but rather that a new part of it is beginning.

A month ago, my finances were in order, my to-do list was short, my social life was at it should be, work was good, and I was praying and reading the Bible daily. All was right with the world. Then I finished the New Testament.

I felt like my job was done, so I set the Bible aside for a while. Now, I'm overdrawn, my to-do list is unbearable, my social life is unmanageable, work is a disaster, and I've prayed about five times with any zeal. This has all happened in one month.

Now, this is not to say that life has been bad. In fact, it's been fantastic. But my priorities are so out of whack, I feel like I'm working so hard and never accomplishing anything. But God blessed me today with a new measure of hope and faith, and I'm turning it back around.

I'm trying to stay up all night to get things done. Quite honestly, I'm exhausted and need to at least take a nap. But I've already made a ton of progress. I'm nearing the light.

But whether or not I get anything done at all, the point is that I'm reinstating God as the manager of my life. And if I do that successfully, He will see to it that everything turns out for the best.

It is astounding how much your spirit can be fed when you read God's Word. Everything in your life gets subconsciously shot through a Bible-prism, creating a much more beautiful array of light than anything you could have come up with on your own. The Bible itself says that it contains many mysteries, and at first glance, we might think that means the text itself. While that is true, the greatest mystery of the Bible is the instant transformation it completes on our heart, mind and life. All we have to do is take the time to access it.
